Overview

EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts

A sound installation by Ellen Moffat and Jeff Morton
Playing in EPCOR CENTRE’s +15, starts September 1, 2011 at 5 pm and runs 24 hours daily until August 29, 2012.

Venue +15 Soundscape

Seasonal Waves explores collaborative sound-making at several levels: the artists performed the instruments through direct engagement in live performance, and the instruments performed themselves through sympathetic resonance and excited systems.

Seasonal Waves references the four seasons of the Canadian prairies: Fall, Winter, Spring,Summer. Each season is a distinct movement with its own sonic character, duration and rhythms. In all movements, sound events suggest everyday natural and urban sounds and rhythms such as wind, insects, birds, chinooks, drumming, human activity and rain as an imaginary and psychoacoustic soundscape.

Ellen Moffat and Jeff Morton have collaborated on site-specific and performance projects in Saskatoon and Regina since 2009.

Ellen Moffat
Ellen Moffat is a Saskatoon-based media installation artist. Her work focuses on sound, space, language and composition in sound, media and sculptural installations. Since 2002, she has used deconstructed language and field recordings in audio installations using up to 24-channels of sound. More recently she has employed methods and strategies of interactivity - physical interfaces and live sound processing - to explore collaborative creation and composition. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally in gallery, off-site projects and events.

Jeff Morton
Jeff Morton is a composer and performer currently based in Regina, SK. His music and media art are playful, experimental explorations of sound, sound-making and compositional processes using found and musical objects and materials. His work includes traditional and graphic notation for instrumental chamber music, DIY audio building and bending, and electro acoustic performance. Jeff has a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the University of Victoria in 2008, and he has performed in festivals, concert halls, and off-site locations around Canada and Europe.
