For over 16 years, CTV Calgary newscasts have been rated Number One in Southern Alberta. CTV Calgary sets itself apart by boasting more weekday viewers than all the local competitors combined. This tradition carries over on the weekend, where the CTV Calgary News has more than triple the number of viewers of its nearest competitor. CTV Calgary is renowned for its on-air talent and news content.

From the moment CTV Calgary first went on the air in 1960, community involvement has been a central philosophy. News Anchors Barb Higgins and Darrel Janz freely give their time to countless non-profit organizations including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Hospice Calgary and Volunteer Calgary. Barb and Darrel volunteer so regularly, that both have received the prestigious Media Recognition Award throughout the years at the Calgary White Hat Awards which honors Calgarians who make a difference in the community.

Together, Janz and Higgins are recognized as the most trusted personalities in the city of Calgary.

Responding to the growing demand for consumer and medical news, CTV Calgary was one of the first newsrooms in Canada to institute a consumer beat, called Consumer Watch, and a medical segment now known as Medical Watch.

CTV Calgary has created a number of firsts in television. These include producing the first Canadian Football League game from the Prairies for CTV; instituting the instant replay in Western Canada; bringing Crime Stoppers to Calgary; and initiating Child Find on television.
