Yahoo! Don’t miss one of Calgary’s most popular attractions, the Calgary Stampede! During 10 days of outback fun, there are tons of activities and shows to entertain the entire family! The main event is the Rodeo, which combines the roughest competitors with the toughest stock in six challenging events; Bareback, Bull Riding, Barrett Racing, Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling and Tie-Down Roping. Lasting until Showdown Sunday, the final four competitors strive to win the grand prize of $100,000.00 and the Calgary Stampede Championship! Junior Rodeo competitions also make for a great show, including Novice Bareback, Novice Saddle Bronc,
Junior Steer Riding and Wild Pony Racing!
The GMC Rangeland Derby features exciting chuckwagon races each year! 36 Drivers, 288 horses and their teams of outriders race for the finish line and a lump sum of over 1.5 million in prize money! Immediately following is the Grandstand show, which features Canadian dancers, comedians, musicians, artists and performers. Calgary is proud of its animals and agriculture. Each year, the Calgary stampede supports local agricultural industries and businesses, allowing them to market their animals, products and services to tourists and the community.
Not only are there festivities in the main Stampede Park, but throughout the city as well. You’ll be greeted the minute you step off the plane with a traditional Western Welcome! Pancake breakfast is offered at various caravan locations for FREE. Don’t be surprised if you see the Stampede mascot, Harry the horse, around town, or decorated houses and buildings showing Stampede spirit!

Did you know?
The horses used back in the Wild West were wild, and although it may not look it, the ones which are used in today’s rodeo competitions are specially trained and prepped for the events. Many of these horses can cost up to $50,000 US depending on their speed and agility. Bull riding is the most dangerous event in the Stampede, not because of the sport itself, but because of the bull’s aggression afterwards.
Approximately 450,000 stuffed toys are won, 16,000 coffee grains are composted and 76,000 hamburgers are consumed within the 10 day Calgary Stampede events!
