EPCOR CENTRE’s Jack Singer Concert Hall Pre-show 6pm, Concert 7pm
By using so many instruments with a brightly rhythmic quality, they achieve thick and sunny grooves that amble along irresistibly, allowing different colours to come to the fore and then slink back into the mix. ~ Edward Randell, Music OMH
Deemed a “supergroup” of expert Malian and Cuban musicians, AfroCubism has played sold-out shows around the globe and consistently appear on top 10 lists of World Music ratings.
This limited-stop tour brings together a roster of top musicians who were meant to join forces fourteen years ago during the wildly popular Buena Vista Social Club sessions. Musicians like singer-guitarist Eliades Ochoa (one of the younger members of the Buena Vista Social Club at 63 years), guitarist Djelimady Tounkara, balafon player Lassana Diabeté, kora player Toumani Diabaté and ngoni player Bassekou Kouyate – all spectacular and sought-after musicians in their own right – now come together for this rare and much-anticipated collaboration.
Witness history on the stage of EPCOR CENTRE’s Jack Singer Concert Hall with this amazing partnership between two countries, oceans apart, but connected by deep-rooted traditional rhythms.
